Spelt Waffles
Ingredients
- 1 cup freshly milled spelt (or soft white) flour
- 1/2 cup regular flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter or oil
Instructions
Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the spelt flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter or oil.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.
Lightly grease the waffle iron if necessary. Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron, using the amount recommended by the manufacturer.
Close the lid and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp. Cooking time will vary depending on your waffle iron.
Carefully remove the waffles and serve warm with your favorite toppings.
