Jewish Apple Cake Recipe

Jewish Apple Cake (from The Sea Gypsy Bed and Breakfast)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 stick margarine or butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 8 oz. sour cream
  • 4 Mackintosh apples
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Instructions

  • Grease a 9x13in baking pan.

  • Preheat oven to 350F.

  • In a large bowl cream sugar and magarine.

  • Add eggs and vanilla, mix together.

  • In a small bowl combine flour, baking soda, baking powder.

  • Add flour mixture to sugar mixture.

  • Add sour cream.

  • Mix together 3/4 cup sugar with 1 tsp. cinnamon.

  • Peel and slice 4 baking apples.

  • Put 1/2 batter in pan.

  • Arrange sliced apples on top.

  • Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture.

  • Spread other 1/2 batter over apples.

  • Arrange remaining apples.

  • Sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture.

  • Bake for 45-50 mins.
