Beans( Babushkini) Recipe

Babushka’s Beans

Ingredients

  • Great Northern Beans (brand)
  • 1 cup beans
  • 1/2 onion (medium)
  • salt to taste (less than what you would put to salt potatoes)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • a little butter

Instructions

  • Place beans into a plentiful amount of water (2-3 cups) for 10-12h. (overnight or when going to work).
  • Pour out the water and rinse beans well (otherwise they will be bitter).
  • In a pot, pour new water to cover beans approx. 2cm. Add vegetable oil. Wait to boil, continue to boil at lowest possible temperature.
  • Add sugar after 15mins.
  • Boil approx. 30mins or more until almost done. To tell if it’s done, mix with spoon. If it is bouncy then it isn’t done yet.
  • Add water if it boils out.
  • Once almost done, add salt.
  • Mince (cut finely) onion and fry on a skillet with vegetable oil until golden. Pour into beans once the beans are done.
  • Add a small amount of butter, wait until mixture boils and turn off.
