Ingredients

  • 7-8 potatoes
  • 2 cups sliced cabbage
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/3 stick butter
  • Whipped cream or milk
  • Grated N.Y. cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • Peel potatoes and cut into pieces, then cover with water. Boil until soft and pour off the water. Add 1/3 stick of butter, salt, and pepper to taste. Mash the potatoes until smooth, adding a little whipped cream (or milk) to make medium creamed potatoes.

  • In another pot, combine 2 cups of sliced cabbage and 1/2 cup of chopped onions. Boil for 10 minutes or until tender, then pour off the liquid.

  • In a greased pan (or oven-proof bowl), put a layer of creamed potatoes.

  • Put the cooked cabbage on top of the potato layer. Sprinkle grated N.Y. cheddar cheese over the cabbage.

  • Add the rest of the potatoes on top, and sprinkle with cheese.

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake until lightly browned, approximately 20-30 minutes.
