Cheesy Tortellini Sausage Bake
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (25-oz) jar marinara sauce
- 9 ounces fresh cheese tortellini
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
- ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped (optional garnish)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove sausage from its casing and add sausage to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease.
Add onion and garlic. Cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
Pour in marinara sauce and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Stir in tortellini and heavy cream. Simmer for 3-5 minutes, until the tortellini is heated through.
Transfer mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly over top.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired.
